100 Best Communities" celebration
March 8, 2011: The Solano County Library Foundation and First 5 Solano are hosting a "100 Best Communities" celebration event on Wednesday, April 6 from 8:00am-10:00am.
The Library Foundation was the lead agency (with First 5 Solano/Solano County as co-sponsor) on the latest "100 Best Communities for Youth" application to America's Promise Alliance (APA) in Washington DC. Thanks to the diligent efforts of Executive Director Dilenna Harris, SCLF Board Member Patty Jansen, and Executive Director Christina Arrostuto of First 5 Solano, Solano was awarded the "100 Best Communities" designation for the fourth time in a row!
As a result, we have been awarded a grant from APA for a community event. This event is to honor the individuals and agencies that contributed to the application, and to inspire us as a community to keep working on behalf of our children and youth.
We are planning a breakfast event with inspirational speaker Mr. Jim McCormick (www.takerisks.com). In addition Solano County District Attorney Don DuBain and Solano County Office of Education Superintendent Jay Speck will discuss their plans for reducing the drop-out rate. Honorees will receive certificates of appreciation, and Dilenna Harris will emcee the event."
