Literary and Cultural Tour 2013 - Washington D.C.

At long last, the planning is finalized for the Solano County Library Foundation's Literary & Cultural tour to Washington, D.C. I'm sending this email to those of you who have contacted me or expressed interest in the trip. Our trip will be from Sept. 10 - 19th. Our tour group maximum size is 35.

The itinerary for the trip is here and the costs are listed at the end depending on the size of the group. You will note that there are costs that are higher if you are paying by credit card. That is because neither the Foundation nor tour operator have the ability to absorb the credit card fees. If you make payment by check, it will be less and we are encouraging that form of payment but we will accept credit cards - Visa & Mastercard. Checks should be made out to: Solano County Library Foundation and mailed to 601 Kentucky St., Fairfield, CA 94533. The Foundation's phone number is: 707-421-8075.

At this point, we don't know the exact cost of the trip as we won't know the number of people who are going until we receive your deposit. After we determine the number, we'll let the attendees know the final cost.

The payment schedule is as follows:
$200 deposit due Monday, April 22, 2013
First payment of the remaining half due: Friday, June 7, 2013
Final payment due Friday, August 9, 2013

You should also know that, the Foundation's policy is not to make any refunds. Instead, we encourage you to purchase trip insurance (PDF links: Basic and Select) to recoup costs if something happens & you can't attend. I've attached information from the trip insurance company our tour operator has provided.

This year, we are offering more group dinners than in the past to respond to requests from former trip participants so that increased the cost a bit. However, the single supplement for those of you who prefer your own room, is less than last year.

We've identified a non-stop flight to Dulles airport that leaves from Sacramento on Sept. 10th. It is United, flight 786 that leaves at 8:00 am & gets into DC at 3:59 pm.

The return flight is flight 291 that leaves Dulles at 5:30 pm and gets into Sacramento at 8:12 pm on the 19th. We would encourage you to book this flight as it makes it easier for our tour operator to pick us up together as a group. If you make different flight arrangements, you will be responsible for getting your own transport. Same goes for those of you traveling by alternate transportation such as train.

It looks to be another exciting, informative & fun trip. Plan on bringing good walking shoes as we will do a fair amount of walking.
