Our work in the community
Improving literacy in our community has long been one of our priorities. Since 1998, we have underwritten the cost of many literacy programs, but our focus is on Reach Out and Read, an ongoing program that promotes early literacy by bringing new books and advice about the importance of reading into the pediatric exam room. For more information, click hereOther recent endeavors throughout the county include:
• Supporting the Sunday Afternoon Concert Series at John F. Kennedy Library in Vallejo
• Assisting in the fundraising for the "Storyteller" Sculpture at the Vacaville Public Library Town Square and the "Storytime" Sculpture at Vacaville Public Library Cultural Center
• Partnering with the Frank H. and Eva B. Buck Foundation, which generously donated the funding to purchase brand new books for the Vacaville Public Library Town Square (Opening Day Collection). *
• Supporting other literacy programs (Adult Learners Program, Families for Literacy and ESL) on an ongoing basis.
* The opening of the Vacaville Public Library Town Square on January 21, 2005 signaled a new direction for the Foundation, as this was the first time the Board had funded an Opening Day Collection. From the very start, customers at this new library had immediate access to a full array of resources: books, magazines, DVDs, CDs, and the Internet. Customers of all ages filled the new library and quickly put those resources to work.
The success of that fundraising effort has inspired us! We have launched our Book by Book Campaign for the Fairfield Cordelia Library.
This library opened at the end of 2006. If you want to help, you can make an electronic contribution by clicking here.
